Webcast: Is Decarbonization on the Brink of Failure?
The German Climate Protection Act stipulates that climate neutrality must be achieved by 2045. For companies, this means thatdecarbonisation is not a voluntary option, but a medium to long-term obligation.
At the same time, we are currently experiencing a phase of regulatory uncertainty, not only in Europe – from political headwinds againstthe Green Deal to delayed implementation deadlines for individual requirements. However, this does not change the fundamental direction: sustainable climate management remains a key success factor for competitiveness and investor confidence.
As we do every year, we examined the sustainability reporting of the top indices in the DACH region, and the results paint a clearpicture:
- 90% of the companies in the DAX40, ATX and SMI now have a climate strategy.
- Over 80% conduct climate scenario analyses and actively address physical and transitional climate risks.
This suggests that decarbonisation is much more than just meeting minimum regulatory standards. It is a prerequisite for the futureviability and resilience of business models – and provides long-term advantages in international competition. This has also beenconfirmed by capital market players such as the ECB, which insists on reliable transparency and data quality, for example in connectionwith ESRS requirements (E1). This is the only way to effectively manage risks, allocate capital and ensure systemic stability.
In Deutsche Börse Cash Market's Capital Market Partner webcast, Dr Jan-Ole Brandt and Antonia von der Beeck present the keyfindings of the study, best practices from leading companies and tools for developing a 1.5°C-compliant transition plan.
