Event,
CCR Roundtable: “Anticipated Financial Effects: Making the Most of the Time Gained – From Reporting Obligation to Management Logic”
Friday, 13 November 2026 9.00 am – 2.00 pm
Deutsche Börse, Eschborn
The ESRS require disclosure of the anticipated financial effects of material sustainability-related risks and opportunities (Anticipated Financial Effects, AFE). The European Commission has placed this requirement under transitional provisions for the first reporting years: the obligation has been deferred, not removed. But what does this mean in practice?
Those who view this deferral merely as breathing space for reflection risk missing a strategic opportunity: namely, to systematically translate sustainability-related risks and opportunities into financial metrics and integrate them into internal management processes. As a specialist or senior decision-maker in sustainability, finance or investor relations, you should ensure at an early stage that you not only understand the legal framework surrounding AFE, but also gain insight into capital market expectations and practical implementation approaches.
This roundtable, organised jointly by the Center for Corporate Reporting and Kirchhoff Consult, offers scope for in-depth discussion and networking. Practical insights will be provided by Georg Lanfermann, President of the DRSC (German Accounting Standards Committee), Dr Klaus Hufschlag, CFO Corporate Sustainability at DHL Group, and Christoph M. Klein, Founder and Managing Partner of ESG Portfolio Management.
Topics will include:
- understanding the spirit of the regulation and developing pragmatic implementation pathways
- addressing methodological challenges in determining quantitative disclosures
- exploring the tension between standard-setting and management relevance
- establishing appropriate methods, processes and governance structures
- illustrating how sustainability-related risks and opportunities can be systematically translated into financial metrics and integrated into internal management, using climate change as an example, where financial effects emerge over time
- understanding how the capital market is currently dealing with AFE and how this may evolve in future
- discussing practical approaches for how companies can proactively address AFE ahead of the reporting obligation
