Kirchhoff Progress Report 2021: The Fight Against CO2 Emissions Begins Small
Kirchhoff Consult AG has already exceeded its goal of reducing the company's CO2 emissions by 30% by 2022, compared to 2017 levels ahead of schedule. Since 2016, the company has been recording and compensating for its carbon footprint in cooperation with the Swiss organization “myclimate,” with the aim of gradually reducing it.
"Currently, all eyes are on the World Climate Conference in Glasgow: This is where the course must be set in the fight against the worldwide increase in CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions. But this fight is famously starting small. We also have set ourselves goals," said Klaus Rainer Kirchhoff, founder and Chairman of Kirchhoff Consult AG. "We are particularly pleased that we were able to reduce our CO2 emissions so significantly. Of course, this was mainly possible due to the corona pandemic - but also due to the switch to green electricity and digital meetings that replaced air travel. We will work intensively to ensure that this remains the case!"
Kirchhoff compensates for unavoidable emissions by supporting non-profit sustainability projects of the myclimate - The Climate Protection Partnership Foundation. In 2021, this is a project to promote sustainable management of mangrove forests in Madagascar. This initiative has positive effects on various aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In addition to continuous reduction and compensation, Kirchhoff also plans to extract more CO2 every year than the company emits. This climate positivity is to be achieved through a cooperation with the one for the planet e.V. initiative. Every month, a donation is made for each Kirchhoff employee, which helps finance climate protection projects. All employees at Kirchhoff are involved in the selection of all projects.
